Hello Level Walkers,
High heat is in the forecast for Thursday through Saturday. The heat index is projected to be over 100 degrees on this days, and as noted in the following notification from the C&O Canal NHP, volunteer programs are suspended under those conditions. Please check the weather and consider the heat carefully if you are planning to level walk. Defer your plans if the heat index is over 100 degrees.

Dear Volunteers,
The current forecast has temperatures reaching 98 degrees over the next few days. When the heat index reaches 100 degrees, park volunteers must stand down. Even when the heat index is below 100 degrees, it will be very hot over the next few days. Please make sure to take breaks in the shade and drink plenty of water when volunteering outside.
Please keep an eye on the weather forecast, particularly the “real feel”, and plan accordingly. If you have any questions, please contact your park staff program coordinator.
